Looks cool . . . but can easily tip over and break your speakers or injure someone.
|
Comment:
So I bought these because they look cool.
The construction out of metal makes the stand itself sturdy.
It does come with the options of spikes (for carpets) or plastic feet (for hardwood floors).
However, all the good points is completely offset by the lack of proper balance - this makes this a safety hazard from tipping which can result in damage to the speakers or serious injury to small children, people's feet, and pets.
Here's the deal about the balance - these stands are very prone to tipping forward left or forward right. In fact a baby or a cat can easily knock this over - a slight earthquake can knock this over too. And if you live in earthquake country prepare to secure this down tightly.
I was so worried about the stands tipping over that I ended up buying sandbags to hold these to the floor - not the greatest thing acoustically, but at least it improves the safety.
My speakers are not big - they're Yamaha NS-10M studio monitors and they fit perfectly on the "speaker bass".
One more thing - the copy describes this as "Hook & Loop" - which made me think that it was some sort of a strap mounting the speaker to the stand. I didn't realize that "Hook & Loop" is just a fancy word for Velcro - and I'm not really up for putting sticky adhesive on the bottom of my speakers. Since I'm crossing over the speakers at 80Hz and using a separate subwoofer, I'm not really worried about the bass going through the stands.
As far as design - if they simply would have extended the curves out a bit more, the balance would have been significantly more stable without losing any acoustic edge.
The one redeeming thing about these is that they do look cool.
But if safety and acoustics are of any concern, I would strongly recommend staying away from these speaker stands.

Nice looking but unstable stands
|
Comment:
I chose these stands for their height, curved appearance, and because the top plates were relatively larger than competitive models. The big problem, however, is that the stands are unstable because their bases are too small and unfortunately, these stands can't be loaded with sand or buckshot to improve the stability. If you have hardwood floors and zero foot traffic near your speakers, you might be OK, but anyone else with stability concerns should think twice before buying these.
These stands do require assembly but they're easy to put together. I didn't have any of the assembly difficulties that the first reviewer described.
Comment:
By looking at pictures, I thought these stands had a red tint to them. But the a purely black, which is not noted in description. The other thing not noted is that there is some assembly required. Usually not a big deal and there aren't too many parts. BUT in this case the holes don't line up well (yes I'm assembling correctly). So assembly has become rather difficult and has lead to some scratches. It's a fairly nice looking stand, but with the experience I've had, I would've shopped further. Note that there are several sellers of this item on Amazon, I unfortunately chose the most expensive of the two (noticed this later of course).
